What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is the treatment and prevention of injury. The aim of physiotherapy is to help alleviate pain, restore normal movement and function patterns and help return the body to its natural balanced state. Our physiotherapists employ a wide range of skills to achieve this, with the use of:

Manual Therapy

Manual therapy is a branch of physiotherapy which specialises in the treatment of musculoskeletal problems that involves structures such as muscles, nerves and joints.

Manual therapy involves hands-on physiotherapy techniques such as joint mobilisation, soft tissue techniques, trigger point release and manipulation.

Manual physiotherapists use a combination of these hands-on techniques as well as advice on appropriate stretching and strengthening exercises to restore function.

Acupuncture & Dry Needling

Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles into specific points of the body to ease pain, promote healing and general well-being.

Dry Needling involves needling to altered or dysfunctional tissues in order to improve, or restore function. This may include needling of Myofascial trigger points, periosteum or other soft tissues.

Rehabilitation

The treatment and rehabilitation of both surgical and non-surgical musculoskeletal injuries requires specialised physiotherapy care to restore normal movement, strength and control.

Our Physiotherapists work closely with orthopaedic surgeons, doctors and other health professionals to ensure the optimum recovery from all types of musculoskeletal injuries and post-surgical conditions.

We have full access to the outstanding facilities at the Olympic gym for supervised rehabilitation to help people return to full function.
